Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman Dec. 21 press conference live updates

• Freeman starts by saying this is the first time the Irish have had a top 300 player at every position.

• The Irish signed four players from the state of Texas, the most in the last 20 years.

• Freeman says the Irish have a “global brand” in recruiting.

• Freeman: “As I told the staff, today is a day to celebrate. You have to continue to get the right guys to this place, and that’s what we did.”

• Freeman: “We’re going to focus on the ones who decided to come here.”

• Freeman: “They have to make the decision to come to Notre Dame for the right reasons… You can’t worry about the ones you didn’t get.”

• Freeman says four-star running back signee Jeremiyah Love brings a “unique talent” to the offensive side of the ball.

• Freeman: “You’re going to be able to capitalize off name, image and likeness at Notre Dame as well as anywhere else you’re looking at. We believe that.”

• Freeman says he views getting players to commit as soon as possible as vital as anything else in the recruiting process. He says the sooner they commit, the better the chance the Irish have of signing them.”

• Freeman: “If you’re coming here for NIL, it’s probably not going to be the best place for you.”

• Freeman scoffs and smirks at the mention of “acquisition fees” in relation to NIL in a question from a reporter. “Acquisition fees? We don’t speak to that.”

• Freeman: “We need guys to understand the magnitude of this place and what it will provide in the long run because you’re not always going to get that instant gratification.”

• Freeman: “If you don’t learn from every kid who’s committed or decommitted, you’re losing a chance to grow.”

• Freeman: “The guys we got, they understand the value of Notre Dame.”

• Freeman on Drayk Bowen: “This is a Notre Dame kid, man. He’s going to be great.”

• Freeman admits that Benjamin Morrison would not have been the first player from last year’s signing class who he would have picked to be a starter in 2022. Morrison is an example of selecting a talented player, signing him and letting him blossom.

• Freeman says he’s going to let his coordinators “wrestle it out” to determine which side of the ball Brandyn Hillman will play. “He’s a football player. Get him into the program and figure it out.”
