Newsstand: Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman visits historic city
One of the most influential figures in college football visited one of the most historic cities in the United States this week. Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman went to the Aspire Hotel in Gettysburg, Pa., to speak to the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg.
The Battle of Gettysburg (1863) is known as the turning point of the U.S. Civil War. Union Major General George Meade’s Army of the Potomac defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia over the course of three days in early July. Nearly 50,000 lives were lost, marking the most casualties of any battle in the war.
“This is a place you’ve obviously heard about throughout school and in history,” Freeman told ABC27 News reporter Nick Petraccione. “I really want at some point to be able to spend time in this wonderful place.”

Quote of the day
“The way Notre Dame has been recruiting me, if they just keep it the same, because I don’t think they can upgrade from that. They have just been on it. It may be the official visit that might change my mind about the school.”
