Notre Dame (5-3) is back in the rankings conversation after the Fighting Irish’s win over then-No. 16 Syracuse. The Irish aren’t appearing in the polls yet, but they’re not far off.

Notre Dame is the eighth team receiving votes in the Coaches Poll. The Irish are the fifth team receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25. A win over Clemson (8-0), the team ranked No. 5 in both polls, this weekend would certainly vault head coach Marcus Freeman‘s squad into the rankings for the first time since falling out after a Week 2 loss to Marshall.

Notre Dame owns two victories over currently-ranked teams; No. 15/17 North Carolina (7-1) and Syracuse, who fell to No. 22 in both polls after the Irish’s 41-24 triumph in the JMA Dome.

Two of the Irish’s final four games come against highly-ranked foes. After facing Clemson on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in South Bend, the Irish face unranked Navy in Baltimore and Boston College back at Notre Dame Stadium before finishing the regular season at No. 9 USC (7-1) in Los Angeles on Nov. 26.
