Notre Dame football expected to hire senior analyst Ronnie Regula from Miami
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has his first full-time, on-field assistant coaching staff in place, but there is always constant tweaking and shuffling in and out of lesser known assistants. According to a report from On3 Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Freeman is set to bring one of those into the program.
Per Zenitz’s report, Notre Dame is expected to hire Miami’s Ronnie Regula as a senior analyst. A former tight end for the Hurricanes, Regula was a offensive quality control analyst for Miami in 2021. He held the same position at Tennessee in 2020. He arrived in in Knoxville after serving as UNLV’s tight ends coach in 2019.
This is a return to the Midwest for Regula. He began his playing career at Mt. Saint Jospeh in Cincinnati before transferring to Miami. Thus, it is also a return to working with newly named Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden. Regula played for Golden when the latter was the Hurricanes’ head coach.
Regula walked on at Miami and won the “305 Walk-On Award” as the most improved walk-on in the program in 2014, Golden’s penultimate year in charge of the program. He later earned a scholarship for standout work on special teams and as a tight end. If anybody could vouch for Regula’s work ethic, it’s Golden.
