Newsstand: Where Notre Dame stacks up in odds to make College Football Playoff
There are less than two months until Notre Dame kicks off the college football season against Texas A&M. The Fighting Irish begin the 2024 campaign with a game that will surely have College Football Playoff implications come December. If the Irish beat the Aggies, their chances of qualifying for the 12-team CFP get better.
And those odds are already good. Really good.
The fifth-best in the country, per FanDuel.
The only programs with better betting odds of reaching the College Football Playoff than Notre Dame are Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon and Texas. That’s it. It could be because Texas A&M — even after going 7-6 and firing head coach Jimbo Fisher — is one of the toughest opponents on the Irish schedule. The Aggies are probably No. 2 behind Florida State, but the Irish get the Seminoles at home in November.
Oddsmakers are already assuming the Irish are a safe bet to get into the CFP. If they can get by the Aggies in front of 100,000-plus, then they’re really in the driver’s seat.
