Two Notre Dame players are up for a notable award given out annually by The College Sports Communicators in association with the Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization. Fighting Irish sophomore right tackle Blake Fisher and senior linebacker Marist Liufau made the watch list for the Comeback Player of the Year honor.

Per a press release announcing a list of 61 watch release members, three student-athletes will be announced as winners of the award at the Fiesta Bowl. Winners of the award are recognized “for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances.”

Fisher missed 11 games as a true freshman last after suffering a knee injury that required surgery in the Irish’s season opener at Florida State. He returned to start in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1. Liufau missed his entire junior season after suffering a compound ankle fracture during fall camp 2021. Both players have started the first five games of the 2022 season.

Fisher is coming off his best game of the season per Pro Football Focus grades. He said he feels as confident as ever nearing the midway point of his first full collegiate season. Liufau ranks seventh on the Irish roster in total tackles with 20.

Quote of the day

“Starting with Notre Dame, it’s Notre Dame. There is not much to explain there. Just because they’re not ranked top-five in the nation does not mean this is not a Notre Dame team. It’s going to be a dog fight in there.”
