The gradual ascension for Notre Dame in the polls continues. After taking a serious plunge following a Week 2 defeat to Northern Illinois, the Fighting Irish are up to No. 13 in the Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Associated Press Poll with three consecutive victories over Purdue, Miami (Ohio) and Louisville.

The latest of those triumphs came yesterday against the then-No. 15 Cardinals, whose first defeat dropped them to No. 22 in the Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the AP Top 25.

There are only two other currently ranked teams on Notre Dame’s 2024 schedule, and the Irish already knocked one of them off. The Irish beat then-No. 20 Texas A&M in Week 1. The Aggies are No. 21 in the Coaches Poll and tied for No. 25 in the AP Top 25. Southern Cal, meanwhile, is No. 15 in the Coaches Poll and No. 11 in the AP Top 25. Notre Dame plays the Trojans in Los Angeles in the regular season finale.

Two other Notre Dame opponents are receiving votes. Navy would be the No. 37 team in the country according to the coaches, if the rankings extended that far. Army would be No. 40. Those two service academies are both 4-0 for the first time since 1945. All of a sudden, they’re two of the tougher remaining games on Notre Dame’s schedule ahead of games against Georgia Tech and Florida State.

Head coach Marcus Freeman’s Irish have a bye week before facing Stanford at home Oct. 12.
