Former Notre Dame offensive guard Zack Martin still isn’t in Oxnard, Calif., for Cowboys training camp, and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to get there any time soon. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones commented on the holdout Monday.

Jones said Martin’s absence, which is due to wanting to restructure his contract so that he receives closer to what the top-paid guards in the NFL are currently getting, is not a surprise. Martin makes $14 million per year, eighth in the league among guards. Atlanta’s Chris Lindstrom makes $20.5 million, and the Indianapolis Colts’ Quenton Nelson, also a former Fighting Irish players, makes $20 million.

Jones is not ready to budge on Martin’s demands.

“You realize that not having him here, it could happen on the next play,” Jones said. “And you’re not happy. So gotta put that one on and say we’ll just move on here without him. But you say, ‘boy, that sounds concerning.’ No, I’m just trying to give you how you really have to look at it.”

“Luke is a great athlete. He’s really tall and lanky. He’s also really fast. He’s been getting to know the playbook but it’s new. He came straight from high school. He wasn’t here in the spring, but he’s been doing well.”
