Notre Dame is an early favorite in the 2022 Gator Bowl. FanDuel’s betting odds opened with the No. 21 Fighting Irish (8-4) as a 4.5-point favorite over No. 19 South Carolina (8-4).

The Irish were a favorite in 7 of 12 regular season games per OddsShark.com. They have a 3-4 record against the spread as a favorite. Twice, they’ve lost outright as a favorite (Marshall and Stanford). The Irish are 6-6 overall against the spread.

There are just under four weeks to allow for plenty of movement with the line. If players like junior tight end Michael Mayer and senior defensive end Isaiah Foskey opt out of the game to focus on the 2023 NFL Draft, those decisions could certainly alter the point spread.

Quote of the day

“We had a conversation this week, myself and Drew as well as many other players we have on our team, in terms of our intentions, my intentions, into certain positions looking for transfers. I’m always looking for ways to enhance our roster. I always want to be up front and honest, and I was with Drew. I told him that we would possibly look at taking a transfer quarterback.”
