Former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book has found a new NFL home. The 2021 fourth round NFL Draft pick of the New Orleans Saints has been added to the New England Patriots practice squad per a report from the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed.

Book’s lone start during his now two-plus year professional career came in December 2021. Behind a very porous Saints offensive line on Monday Night Football, Book went 12-of-20 for 135 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. The Dolphins sacked him eight times, which tied a team record.

Book is Notre Dame’s all-time leader in wins by a starting quarterback with 30. He left South Bend having completed 728-of-1,141 (63.8 percent) of his passes with 72 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also ran for 361 times for 1,517 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was the starter on two Irish teams that made it to the College Football Playoff in 2018 and 2020.

He won’t be anything more than a depth add with the Patriots with the team already employing Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe, but New England did need a third option after placing Matt Corral on the exempt list last week per Kyed.
