Notre Dame at USC live updates: First quarter
• The Irish win the toss and defer.
• USC drives right down the field to score on an eight-play, 75-yard drive. QB Caleb Williams finds WR Tajhj Washington for the TD.
SCORE: Trojans 7, Irish 0 with 10:36 left in the first quarter
• The Irish go three and out on their first possession. They ran the ball three times with sophomore tailback Logan Diggs, who lost four yards on third and 2.
• It appears Notre Dame recovered a fumble, but USC wideout Jordan Addison repossessed the ball while he was down before the Irish punched it out again.
• The Trojans are flagged for multiple penalties from the Irish five-yard line, including an offensive pass interference infraction on Williams on a trick play, and are forced to settle for a field goal. Irish senior defensive end Isaiah Foskey, who forced the initial Addison fumble, sacked Williams for a loss of six yards.
• The Irish hit a 30-yard passing play on a slip screen to running back Audric Estimé to put the Irish across midfield for the first time in the game. The quarter ends with Notre Dame on the USC 31.
Second quarter
• A review reveals Irish QB Drew Pyne is down before falling forward for first-down yardage. On the ensuing fourth and short, Irish tight end Mitchell Evans is denied a first down on his sneak package. The Irish turn the ball over on downs.

• The Irish make good on a reversed call that gives Diggs first down yardage to get on the board with a Michael Mayer touchdown. Pyne hit sophomore Deion Colzie for 30 yards on third down a few plays prior to the 22-yard Mayer TD.
SCORE: Trojans 10, Irish 7 with 6:14 left in the second quarter
• USC goes 75 yards in 10 plays while taking 5:40 off the clock to extend its lead. Williams scores on a 5-yard keeper.
SCORE: Trojans 17, Irish 7 with 34 seconds left in the second quarter
Third quarter
• The Irish drive deep into Trojans territory to start the second half, but Pyne loses a fumble on a botched exchange. USC recovers on its own 23.
• USC easily goes down the field with a combination of gashing rushing and passing plays. Another scoring drive is capped off with a seven-yard rushing touchdown.
SCORE: Trojans 24, Irish 7 with 8:21 left in the third quarter
• Notre Dame strikes back with a 23-yard passing touchdown from Pyne to Colzie. Pyne improved to 13-of-13 for 183 yards with 2 touchdown passes and no interceptions.

• Williams works some magic on a scrambling gain of 19. He probably ran 50 or so yards to gain 19.
Fourth quarter
• Williams continues his strong night with a three-yard touchdown rush.

• The Irish keep punching, scoring on a five-yard run by Diggs.

• USC gets into the end zone to extend their lead.

• Pyne finds Mayer for a garbage time touchdown
