Notre Dame to hire Wisconsin’s Mike Brown as wide receivers coach
It took Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman less than a week to find his wide receivers coach replacement for the fired Chansi Stuckey. Freeman has zeroed in on Wisconsin’s Mike Brown according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports. Blue & Gold confirmed his report.
Freeman and Brown worked together at Cincinnati. Brown was the wide receivers coach there from 2019-22 before he followed Luke Fickell to Wisconsin this past offseason. He took on the title of passing game coordinator to go along with wide receivers coach in his last year at Cincinnati. He was named associate head coach of the Badgers in his one year with them.
Brown, 34, started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan in 2016. He was a GA at Delaware in 2017. He spent one year as the running backs coach at Liberty in 2019 before getting with the Bearcats. Freeman had already been at Cincinnati for two seasons before Brown arrived. The two overlapped on Fickell’s staff for two seasons before Freeman took the defensive coordinator job at Notre Dame.
A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Brown played quarterback at Liberty from 2008-11. He was a two-time Big South Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time Big South All-Conference team member. As a senior, Brow had 2,664 passing yards and 18 touchdowns as well as 437 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns. Brown finished his career with 6,072 passing yards, 45 passing touchdowns, 1,875 rushing yards, 29 rushing touchdowns. He ranked second in school history with 7,947 total offensive yards at the time of his graduation.

Brown signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He spent most of his time with the Jags as a wide receiver on the practice squad, but he did catch two touchdown passes in the 2013 season. He finished his short stay in the NFL with 39 catches for 534 yards.
Brown inherits a messy situation in the Notre Dame wide receiver room. Four Irish wideouts have entered the transfer portal in the last week. The quartet includes sophomore Rico Flores Jr and graduate student Chris Tyree. That duo ranked second and third, respectively, on the Notre Dame roster in receptions this season. They also combined for four touchdowns and 876 receiving yards.
There is a talented wide receiving corps expected to sign with Notre Dame in the upcoming recruiting class, but it’ll be on Brown to develop those freshmen in quick fashion considering the construct of the roster might force them into action right away.
