Another former Notre Dame safety has announced which school he’ll suit up for next. Litchfield Ajavon is headed from one highly-regarded academic institution to another. He announced Wednesday he’s transferring to Rice.
Ajavon played in five games during the 2021 season before entering the transfer portal as a graduate after Notre Dame’s victory over Stanford in the regular season finale. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
A four-star recruit in the class of 2019 according to the On3 Consensus, Ajavon never found footing for a role in the Notre Dame defense. Most of his time on the field came in a special teams capacity.
Ajavon endeared himself to Notre Dame fans during his final season in South Bend in an off-field role. Or, an “in the field” role. Notre Dame social media accounts regularly released short videos called “Litch In The Field” in which Ajavon acted as a host going around the football facilities asking teammates various off-the-wall questions.

In his last episode, Ajavon bounced around Notre Dame Stadium after the Irish’s 55-0 senior day victory over Georgia Tech last November asking potential final-year players what their time with the program meant to them.

Ajavon appeared in 10 games from 2019-21. He registered just eight defensive snaps, seven of which came against Navy on Nov. 6, 2021. He wasn’t ever going to factor into the rotation at safety with the addition of Northwestern transfer Brandon Joseph and the return of fifth-year seniors Houston Griffith and DJ Brown.
Ajavon is one of 13 scholarship players from the 2021 roster who transferred out of the program between the season opener at Florida State last September and this spring. Here’s a look at all of those players and where they ended up or if they’re still undecided.
