Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson tried to turn a busted play into a productive one. Former Notre Dame cornerback and current New York Giants safety Julian Love ensured this attempt wouldn’t be added to Jackson’s improvisation highlight reel.

Love stepped in front of a hanging Jackson throw on third-and-6 and intercepted it, ending the Ravens’ attempt to bleed clock or eventually pin the Giants deep in their own territory trailing 20-17. He set his team up to score the winning touchdown.

“Those plays are really dangerous, because you have the most dynamic quarterback back there,” Love told reporters afterward. “It was a bobbled snap, but as soon as he got it, you could see his eyes were looking down field. That’s when he has made his great plays in his career.”

The shotgun snap went wide of Jackson and off his hands, but he picked it up on a bounce, outran a rusher and threw downfield across his body on the move. His target was fullback Patrick Ricard, who didn’t have defender in front of him.

But Love was behind him. Jackson didn’t appear to see Love. Neither did Ricard, who didn’t break back to the ball.

“I wasn’t covering whoever he tried to throw it to,” Love said. “I was kind of just baiting him; I saw someone wide open, saw Lamar kind of lock in, and then I baited the throw a little bit.”

Love caught the ball at the Ravens’ 40-yard line — the original line of scrimmage — and returned it to the 13. The Giants scored four plays later and won 24-20. It was his and the Giants’ first interception of the year.

Love is one of more than 40 Notre Dame players with an NFL organization this season. Here’s how each fared in Week 6.
