Newsstand: Notre Dame football adds Luke Talich as PWO from Wyoming
Wednesday was all about adding new players for Notre Dame. Not all of them received the red carpet treatment complete with social media videos and official signing announcements, though.
Cody (Wyoming) High’s Luke Talich announced his decision to commit to the Fighting Irish as a preferred walk-on. Talich had scholarship offers from Washington State, Utah and Wyoming, among others. He decided to join the Irish without a scholarship instead.
Talich is listed as a safety at 6-3, 185 pounds. He hails from the same city as the late Mike Leach, one of the most legendary college football coaches of this generation. He told the Casper Star-Tribune his decision to walk on in South Bend came down to “living a life with no regrets.”
“I didn’t want to go somewhere and then regret not giving it a shot at Notre Dame,” Talich told the Star-Tribune. “I think it’s important that I give it a try.”

Talich is the first player from the state of Wyoming to sign with the Irish since fullback Steve Dover, who was on the 1977 national championship team. Talich had 582 rushing yards and 1,682 passing yards with 25 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in a senior season that was cut short because of injury.

Quote of the day
“We just make sure we’re bringing in the right kids. We can’t worry about the ones you didn’t get. You have to be concerned with the ones you are bringing in. That’s what’s important. At the end of the day, I felt like we brought in the exact guys we needed and we’re extremely happy with this class.”
— Irish head coach Marcus Freeman
