Notre Dame offensive recruiting set for takeoff?
Notre Dame added an important commitment on Tuesday to its 2023 class when Round Rock (Texas) Stony Point class of 2023 wide receiver Braylon James announced his pledge to the Fighting Irish. James is the nation’s No. 107 overall player and No. 19 wide receiver per the 2023 On3 Consensus.
After losing a commitment from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman cornerback Justyn Rhett last week, the Fighting Irish are back to nine commitments in the 2023 class. The Irish have one five-star committed, plus seven four-star prospects and and one three-star recruit.
Of those nine commitments, just three play on the offensive side of the ball. James joined running back Sedrick Irvin Jr. of Miami Christopher Columbus and tight end Cooper Flanagan of Concord (Calif.) De La Salle on the Irish offensive commit list.
Is Notre Dame offensive recruiting set for takeoff? It should be.
On Wednesday, April 20, BlueandGold.com’s Mike Singer joined Darin Pritchett on WSBT Sportsbeat AM to discuss the latest in Notre Dame football recruiting. Among the topics was James’ commitment to the Irish, notable visitors for the Blue-Gold Game and what could be next on the Irish 2023 offensive board.
“I think offensive line [recruiting] will take care of itself,” Singer said. “Even though Notre Dame would typically have two or three offensive line commitments at this point in a recruiting cycle, I’m not worried about the offensive line. Notre Dame has done a nice job at tight end, and at running back, Notre Dame has recruited really well. They have Sedrick Irvin Jr. committed, and I think they’re going to get Jayden Limar from Washington.

“For me, it’s quarterback and receiver — Notre Dame has to get [five-star quarterback] Dante Moore and close on a talented wide receiver class. If they do that, then you’re looking at one of the best offensive classes for Notre Dame in some time.”

Two of Notre Dame’s top wide receiver targets will be on campus this weekend. Austin (Texas) Westlake’s Jaden Greathouse, the No. 122 overall prospect and No. 21 wide receiver per the 2023 On3 Consensus, scheduled this weekend’s visit to South Bend two months ago. The Irish have a big opportunity to take a lead over Texas, as Greathouse is taking his first trip to Notre Dame.
It will also be the first time Uniontown (Pa.) Laurel Highlands’ Rodney Gallagher steps foot at Notre Dame. Gallagher, the No. 105 overall recruit and No. 18 wide receiver according to the On3 Consensus, is another crucial target for the Irish.
