Newsstand: Notre Dame signee Drayk Bowen named a finalist for All-American Bowl Defensive Player of the Year
One of Notre Dame’s top signees from the recruiting class of 2023 is up for a prestigious award. Merrillville (Ind.) Andrean’s Drayk Bowen is one of five finalists for All-American Bowl Defensive Player of the Year.
The All-American Bowl Awards Show takes place on Jan. 6 in San Antonio. Bowen is in the running with Barnesville (Ga.) Lamar County’s CJ Allen, Warner Robins (Ga.) High’s Vic Burley, Hoschtown (Ga.) Mill Creek’s Caleb Downs and Manteca (Calif.) High’s Blake Nichelsen.

Bowen was a menace for Andrean in 2022. He had 144 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 5 passes broken up, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked punt defensively and 242 carries for 1,784 yards and 26 touchdowns, plus 10 receptions for 228 yards and 3 scores on offense in leading his school to a state championship. He was crowned Indiana Mr. Football and won the Butkus Award as the best high school linebacker in the country.
Bowen will enroll early and make nearby South Bend his new home in January.
