Notre Dame football reveals jersey numbers for summer enrollees, two number changes
When Notre Dame secured On3 five-star Guerby Lambert‘s services over Ohio State, Boston College and Harvard (yes, Harvard), it had visions of the West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial giant as its next great offensive tackle after Joe Alt.
Step one, apparently, is complete: Lambert will wear Alt’s old number.
Notre Dame revealed new numbers for its summer-enrolling transfers in its summer roster update Friday, and the 6-foot-7, 318-pound blocker is listed as No. 76. He’s one of eight scholarship freshmen who arrived on campus this week, alongside, cornerback Leonard Moore (No. 15), safety Tae Johnson (No. 16), wide receiver Logan Saldate (No. 19), cornerback Karson Hobbs (No. 21), safety Taebron Bennie-Powell (No. 31) and linebackers Teddy Rezac (No. 35) and Bodie Kahoun (No. 36).
Graduate student punter James Rendell, who is technically a recruit from Prokick Australia, not a transfer, will wear No. 16.
The Irish also officially completed their transfer class of 2024, putting former Clemson wide receiver Beaux Collins and former Northwestern safety Rod Heard II on the official roster for the first time. Collins will wear No. 5, while Heard will wear No. 2.
Collins’ new number also brought about Notre Dame’s third number change since spring practice ended with the Blue-Gold Game on April 20. Sophomore wide receiver Jordan Faison was No. 5, but he will now wear No. 6. In early May, sophomore defensive linemen Boubacar Traore and Armel Mukam switched from No. 51 to No. 5 and No. 93 to No. 88, respectively.

The Faison as No. 5 era was short — so short, that he was never actually seen in a jersey with that number. He burst onto the scene as a freshman wearing No. 80 before moving to No. 5 before spring ball. Faison did not practice much, if at all, this spring as he helped the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team win its second-straight national championship as a starting midfielder.
Saldate’s new number came with the second number change of the summer: sophomore wide receiver Jaden Greathouse switched from No. 19 to No. 1.
Additionally, former Notre Dame and Alabama quarterback Tyler Buchner — now a walk-on wide receiver — will wear No. 26. Freshman quarterback CJ Carr has his old No. 12.
Here’s the full list of new Fighting Irish jersey numbers for the 2024 season.
