Blue & Gold compiled 13 individual game predictions spread across five different national media outlets for this weekend’s matchup between No. 12 Notre Dame (5-1) and Georgia Tech (5-2) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Ten of the prognosticators are picking the Fighting Irish to win. The other three might want to amend their picks in reaction to Friday’s news.

Georgia Tech starting quarterback Haynes King is not playing. It’ll be junior Zach Pyron instead. Pyron has only attempted 7 passes this season backing up King, who’s having a really nice season in completing 71.2 percent of his passes for roughly 223 yards per game with 8 touchdowns and 1 interception. He’s also run 62 times for 353 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Pyron is billed to be the same type of dual-threat signal-caller, but he has not played extensively since his freshman season. This’ll be the biggest game of his career to this point, by far.

Here’s what the national media thought about the matchup before the King news was broken.

The Sporting News: Notre Dame 31, Georgia Tech 24

Bill Bender: Notre Dame and Georgia Tech will play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Yellow Jackets will test the Irish with a running game that averages 204.4 yards per game, and quarterback Haynes King, who is a game-time decision, leads the ACC with a 71.2 completion percentage. Still, this Notre Dame defense limits teams to 3.4 yards per carry and opposing QBs to a 47.9 completion percentage. Riley Leonard has settled in as the starter, too. Georgia Tech is 14-6 ATS as an underdog under Brent Key, a trend we can’t ignore with that spread.

Bleacher Report: Notre Dame 33, Georgia Tech 23

David Kenyon: “This is a neutral-site matchup—as much as Georgia Tech making the drive to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, can be. Tech’s offense is good enough to handle a stout Notre Dame defense, but that margin for error is pretty thin—especially since the Yellow Jackets have been average at best on defense.”
