Notre Dame faces Stanford in Week 7, and everyone is picking the Irish. What’s interesting, though, is that most — but not all — think the Cardinal will cover the 23.5-point spread.

Here’s what the national experts believe will happen in Notre Dame’s matchup with Stanford at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in South Bend.

Sporting News: Notre Dame 35, Stanford 13

“Stanford won its last visit to South Bend in 2022, but the Irish won this matchup 56-23 last season. The Cardinals have a good run defense that allows 3.3 yards per carry, but their quarterbacks have combined for nine TDs and seven interceptions. That will not play well against a Notre Dame defense that ranks sixth in the FBS in pass efficiency defense.

Bleacher Report: Notre Dame 38, Stanford 17

“Notre Dame’s offense hasn’t been explosive enough to strike fear into opponents. The helpful part, though, is the defense can do exactly that, surrendering just 4.4 yards per play and 12.6 points per game. Bad matchup for Stanford, the ACC’s worst offense, save for Florida State.” — David Kenyon

College Football News: Notre Dame 34, Stanford 13

“Notre Dame fans will go into meltdown mode as Stanford keeps this close by grinding away for over four yards per carry. But all those good drives will stall. It won’t be anything pretty – especially coming off the break – but the Irish will bust through in the second half and start to pull away.

“Just look at the final score, Notre Dame types, and don’t ask how the sausage was made.” — Pete Fiutak
