Here are the national media’s predictions for Notre Dame’s Week 9 matchup with Pittsburgh. The prognosticators like the Irish to win this one, but not necessarily to cover.

Bleacher Report: Notre Dame 38, Pitt 13

“Pitt conjured up its classic out-of-nowhere miracle to upset Louisville two weeks ago. Repeating the feat in South Bend would be quite the trick. Notre Dame’s defense should own the day.”

Sportsbook Wire: Notre Dame 31, Pittsburgh 18

Pittsburgh +20.5 (-110) is worth a look catching nearly 3 touchdowns, although be careful. This Panthers offense has been moribund most of the season, going for just 320.4 total yards per game, and 111.1 rushing yards per contest. However, it did top Louisville, a team which beat Notre Dame -20.5 (-110).

“The Panthers have a pretty solid defense, ranking 27th in the nation with just 195.3 opponent passing yards per game, so they should be able to hold QB Sam Hartman down somewhat, keeping the Irish within hailing distance.”

The Sporting News: Pitt +20.5

“The Irish should pull away and win by double-digits, but defeating a resurgent Pitt squad by more than three touchdowns is a tall task. The Panthers have been much better of late and have had this game circled on their schedule all season.

“[Pitt quarterback Christian] Vellieux will look to remain productive against the best defense he’s seen in his career, while Hartman hopes to go into the Clemson game on a high since he’s thrown for just five touchdowns against three interceptions over his last four games following a prolific start.”

Tony Mejia

Fox Sports: Notre Dame 39, Pitt 11

“The Pittsburgh Panthers (2-5) are facing tough odds as 20.5-point underdogs heading into their matchup on Saturday, October 28, 2023 against the No. 14 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-2). The contest has a 45-point over/under.

“In their most recent game, the Fighting Irish won versus the USC Trojans, 48-20. The Panthers’ last game was versus the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and they lost by a score of 21-17.”
