Newsstand: Notre Dame football takes part in ‘Shop With a Player’
Notre Dame was on the field for another pre-Gator Bowl practice Sunday afternoon. A few hours later, Fighting Irish players threw on their green jerseys and went to Meijer to take part in “Shop With a Player.”
The initiative paired Irish football student-athletes with local youth from the Pokagon Band and Boys & Girls Club to provide children with gifts during the holiday season, per a university release. Irish players guided over 100 children around the store for a shopping spree. The players and kids bussed to Meijer together from campus.

Irish head coach Marcus Freeman was on hand for the event, too.
“Coach Freeman and Notre Dame Football continue to show their generosity and support for youth in our community, and specifically our organization,” Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph County CEO Jacqueline Kronk said in a statement. “While the kids [were] excited about picking out gifts, they will never forget spending the day with Notre Dame football players and coaches. We are so grateful for this experience.”

Quote of the weekend
“It was how they recruited me. It was different and separated themselves from others. One of the biggest things you hear from other recruits who commit is how you’ll know and have that feeling about picking a school. I got that early with Notre Dame, and I went back again to make sure it just wasn’t me being in awe. And it felt the same every time.”
