Tim Hyde on Hamilton’s draft stock
“First off, he’s an absolute stud. He’s one of the all-time great Notre Damers — no doubt about it. It just seems like he got here a couple days ago and now he’s gone. It’s not a negative — it’s just he came and he’s gone. It felt so fast. Did we even see the best of Kyle Hamilton, especially this year with him getting injured midway through the season. Going back to his freshman year, how was he not on the field all year long? Everyone knew he was the best player in the secondary … He had an outstanding career.
“It’s a 7-on-7 league. There’s no [wide] hashmarks; you just chuck the ball all over the field. That’s the NFL these days. And with safeties — they’re kind of like running backs these days. There’s so much of situational defenses with guys coming and going. With Hamilton’s size and watching his highlights at Notre Dame, 90 percent of his highlights are 10 yards and under. There’s very few deep highlights of him being a free safety. Is he a guy who will go sideline to sideline or is he a box strong safety — that nickel strong safety type player? With how much the NFL throws the ball all over the place, how is he not someone you want on the field? His length overcomes the speed aspect.”
