Live pregame updates, observations: Notre Dame vs. South Carolina in the Gator Bowl
No. 21 Notre Dame plays No. 19 South Carolina in its final game of the 2022 season Friday (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). The Irish and Gamecocks, both 8-4, meet for the first time since 1984.

1:35 p.m. ET: Notre Dame defensive players and coaches gather at midfield for their pregame huddle and prayer. They disperse after a couple minutes. Some remain on the field, while others went immediately back to the locker room to change.
1:50 p.m.: The Irish specialists are the first on the field for initial warmups.
2:05 p.m.: Most Notre Dame players are on the field for warmups. Kicker Blake Grupe begins field goal practice. Jayson Ademilola, who is out for the game due to an undisclosed injury, is on the sideline in street clothes. He wasn’t wearing a brace, walking boot or any other medical device.
2:17 p.m.: Specialists re-emerge from the locker room in uniform. The Irish are the road team and wearing white jerseys. As usual in bowl games, they have player names on the back.
2:25 p.m.: Grupe makes a 55-yard field goal in warmups with a few yards to spare.
2:30 p.m.: Safety Brandon Joseph is in uniform and fielding kicks and punts with the other returners. Marcus Freeman called him a game-time decision with an ankle injury.
2:35 p.m.: Quarterbacks and centers come up for warmups. Tyler Buchner takes snaps from Zeke Correll.

2:40 p.m.: Notre Dame releases its pregame injury report. Ademilola is the only listed absence among players on the two-deep. The rest of the safeties come out for warmups, and Joseph joins them.
2:40 p.m.: Cornerback Ryan Barnes and safety Justin Walters are inactive and watch team stretching from the end zone with injured running back Jadarian Price. Cornerback Philip Riley did not partake in warmups and isn’t with the other injured players.
3:00 p.m.: Joseph was the last player off the field as the team returned to the locker room and didn’t appear to partake in 11-on-11 warmups.
3:25 p.m.: Kickoff is pushed to 3:40 and the game will begin on ESPN2.
3:30 p.m.: Ten minutes before kickoff, the stands look about 85 percent full. South Carolina fans almost entirely comprise one half of the lower bowl and are a large majority in both end zones and upper deck. The other lower sideline looks like 60 percent Notre Dame fans.
3:37 p.m.: South Carolina wins the toss and will receive.
