Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer lands on all kinds of national lists. He ended up on another one Wednesday.

Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde ranked the top 25 most intriguing non-quarterbacks in college football. Mayer, a junior preseason All-American, checked in at No. 8. He was the only tight end to make the cut. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers was the No. 2 player who “just missed the list.”

Quote of the day

“For his sake, and for all of our peace of mind, I wouldn’t want the first contact he takes to be against the Ohio State Buckeyes. That’s not fair to him or fair to us. We need to see that at some point here at our house.”
