Notre Dame football trivia for Week 1
Notre Dame kicks off the 2024 season at Texas A&M Aug. 31. The last time the Irish and Aggies faced each other was a 24-3 A&M win in College Station, Texas, on Sept. 29, 2001. The two schools also played in South Bend on Sept. 2, 2000, with the Irish prevailing 24-10. In addition, Notre Dame won two of three matchups between the two schools in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, losing 35-10 in 1988 before winning 28-3 in 1993 and 24-21 in 1994. The latter still stands as Notre Dame’s most recent victory in a major bowl game.
When the Irish and Aggies square off this year, they’ll do so in front of 102,733 fans at Kyle Field. Since 1999, the Fighting Irish have played 13 games in front of a crowd of at least 100,000 fans. How many of those games have the Irish won?

Answer: B. Notre Dame has a 2-11 record in games played in front of at least 100,000 fans since 1999. The two wins came at Tennessee in 2004 and at Michigan in 2005. The Wolverines have accounted for most of the damage in the loss column, notching seven victories over the Irish in Ann Arbor in the last quarter century. Notre Dame has also lost at Ohio State (21-10 in 2022), at Texas (50-47 2OT in 2016), at Penn State (31-10 in 2007) and at Tennessee (38-14 in 1999).
The last time the Irish and Aggies played in College Station in 2001, it was in front of a record crowd of 87,206 — the largest ever to watch a football game in Texas at the time. Kyle Field underwent one of the largest and most extensive redevelopment projects — at the cost of $485 million — in the history of collegiate athletics over a two-year span in 2014-15. The expanded seating capacity of 102,733 makes it one of the five largest stadiums in college football.
