Notre Dame football trivia for Week 3
For the first time in 11 years, Notre Dame travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on in-state rival Purdue. The No. 18-ranked Fighting Irish hold a 59-26-2 — including 28-14-2 in West Lafayette — advantage in a series that was played annually from 1946-2014. The two schools, though, have met only twice in the past 10 years after the Irish entered into their scheduling agreement with the ACC.
Notre Dame has won the last eight matchups — by an average margin of 12 points —with Purdue dating back to 2008. The Boilermakers’ last win in the series was a 33-19 triumph at West Lafayette in 2007.

What is the longest win streak in the series?
A. 8
B. 9
C. 11
D. 15
Answer: C. The Fighting Irish won 11 straight games against the Boilermakers from 1986-96. Notre Dame was ranked every year during that stretch but the first and won all but one of those games by at least 17 points (35-28 in 1995 was the lone exception) with an average scoring margin of 28 points (39-11).
Notre Dame has won eight straight two other times (1906-23 and 2008-21) and have never lost more than three in a row — which happened in 1958-60 and 1967-69 — to the Boilermakers.
