LOOK: Notre Dame football reveals green jerseys for Cal game
The green jerseys are here. The official Notre Dame football twitter account released a first glimpse of the actual jerseys the Fighting Irish will wear against California on Saturday.

The first thing that stands out are the names on the back of the jerseys, etched in white fabric. Notre Dame’s traditional blue and gold jerseys do not have names on the back. Just numbers.
Of course, there is not much “traditional” about Notre Dame wearing green jerseys in the first place.
This will be just the 16th time since 1983 the Irish have worn jerseys with green them. That includes twice when they rolled out in white jerseys with green numbers (1992 Sugar Bowl victory over Florida and 2011 regular season loss to Michigan). Overall, the Irish are 9-6 when wearing jerseys involving green. They’ve won four games in a row in green with the most recent win coming on senior day in a 42-13 triumph over Florida State.
These green jerseys look very similar to the ones the Irish wore that day. The interlocking ND logo is once again on the outside part of the shoulder. There aren’t any shoulder numbers either to keep the look clean. The numbers are blue with gold trim, just as they were in 2018.

Notre Dame announced it would wear green jerseys for the Cal game with a witty social media video involving head coach Marcus Freeman in late June. In the video, Freeman said he’d heard complaints from fans about Notre Dame’s tagline of “Irish wear green” being a bit bogus without the Irish football team actually wearing green. That’ll change Saturday.
What Freeman also wants to change is the number that’s been sitting in the win column of his overall record as the head coach of the Irish: 0. Freeman is the first coach in program history to start a tenure 0-3. Two of the losses came to top-10 teams, but the defeat to unranked Marshall at home last weekend was anything but expected.
The Irish host the 2-0 Bears at 2:30 p.m. ET (NBC) in what has quickly turned into a must-win game for Freeman.
