Notre Dame knows when it will finish its 2022 regular season. The No. 18 Fighting Irish (7-3) will take on the No. 6 USC Trojans (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 26. The game will be televised on ABC.

It’s a 4:30 local kickoff, so the Irish and Trojans won’t be under the lights at the LA Coliseum until the second half. But with USC potentially having a shot to secure another ranked win for a possible College Football Playoff resumé, the regular season finale will have all the feels of a true primetime matchup.

It’ll likely be the first time since 2017 both teams are ranked at the time of the matchup. Notre Dame has not played in Los Angeles since 2018 because of the alteration of the 2020 schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Irish won that night, 24-17.

Notre Dame could be in a position to keep hopes alive for another double-digit win season, too. The Irish have not won less than 10 games in any season since 2016. A win over Boston College at Notre Stadium Stadium on Saturday and a road victory over USC would put them in a position to keep the streak alive with a bowl game triumph.

Notre Dame has beaten USC four consecutive times for the first time since Lou Holtz was the Irish’s head coach. The Irish did not lose to the Trojans from 1983-95; they held a 12-0-1 record against them during that span. USC held a similar stretch of dominance in winning nine of 10 matchups from 2002-11. Since then, Notre Dame has won seven of nine.

The rivalry takes on a new look this season with two new head coaches. Marcus Freeman is at the helm for the Irish, and former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley is in his first year with the Trojans. He has enacted a swift turn around in taking a program that went 4-8 last year to the cusp of a CFP berth. USC is still searching for its first ever foray into the playoff.

Freeman’s defense gave up 428 yards to USC in a 31-16 victory for the Irish in South Bend last year. Former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis threw for 299 yards. Now the Irish have to contend with former OU QB Caleb Williams, who has thrown for 3,010 yards with 31 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions. He has run for 6 more scores, too. The Trojans have the No. 3 scoring offense (42.4 points per game) in the country behind Tennessee (47.4) and Ohio State (46.8).

It’ll be a tough challenge for Notre Dame, but the Irish have played up to the better opponents on their schedule. They’re going to need to do it again.
