There will be a reunion of sorts in the Windy City.

The Chicago Bears claimed former Notre Dame walk-on wide receiver Chris Finke off waivers Wednesday. Finke will team up with former Fighting Irish teammate Cole Kmet, who is going into his third season as a Bears tight end.

Finke is also heading into his third season as a pro. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He spent the season on the practice squad and never appeared in a game. Finked signed with the Kansas City Chiefs a year ago but sustained an injury during OTAs that led to him getting waived with an injury settlement.

The Chiefs brought Finke on board again in January but waived him Tuesday. The Bears scooped him up the very next day. Like during his collegiate playing days, Finke just won’t stay down. He capped his college career with 106 catches for 1,251 yards and eight touchdown catches. Not bad for a walk-on.

Quote of the day

“It’s so funny because when I first got here, I said to myself I’m going to stay out of the way, take classes, hopefully just blend in. That was the plan. The first class I go to, I sat in the front row, nobody could see me, everybody’s looking at the professor and I’m in the corner thinking, ‘Perfect.’ Hat down, I’m good.

“The first professor in the first class says, ‘We’re going to go around, tell me your name, where you’re from and a little bit about you.’ I’m like, ‘S—, I’m not going to get by.’”
