Where Notre Dame ranks in Week 15 Associated Press Poll after beating USC
Who’s have thought after losing to Northern Illinois in Week 2 Notre Dame would have its highest poll rankings of the season in Week 15? It’s been a long, steady climb for the Fighting Irish, and they have ascended higher than where they were positioned prior to that defeat, which remains their only of the year entering the postseason.
Notre Dame (11-1) is No. 4 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 In the Associated Press Poll.
Notre Dame has won 10 games in a row, the second-longest active winning streak in college football, and head coach Marcus Freeman‘s team has won those games by an average margin of 30.7 points. Subsequently, this is the highest Freeman’s ever had the Irish ranked in his three years at the helm. He’s got a record of 21-4 in the last two seasons and a mark of 30-9 overall since he took over in Dec. 2021.
The Irish have only beaten one team currently appearing in the polls; No. 23/24 Army (10-1). They took down the Black Knights, 49-14, at Yankee Stadium in Week 13. The Irish’s Week 1 opponent, Texas A&M (8-4), dropped out of the rankings after losing to Texas, 17-7, on Saturday. Notre Dame beat the Aggies, 23-13, when A&M began the year as the 20th-ranked team in the country.
Freeman and Co. get some time off between now and the College Football Playoff because the Irish are not in a conference and therefore do not have a game this weekend during conference championship week. Notre Dame will learn when its playoff journey begins and as well as its first opponent and playoff path when the bracket is announced on Dec. 8.
