Notre Dame former walk-on guard Alex Wade has entered the transfer portal, he announced on social media Thursday afternoon. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Wade was put on scholarship shortly before the 2023-24 season, as the Irish had three open spots entering head coach Micah Shrewsberry‘s first year. The junior played in eight games, averaging 3.4 minutes per outing.

“It’s been an amazing journey these last 3 years and I have been able to make memories on and off the court that I will cherish forever,” Wade said in a social media graphic. “I would like to thank Coach Shrewsberry and the entire coaching staff at Notre Dame for rewarding me with a scholarship and giving me the opportunity to play basketball at this prestigious university.”

Wade will be a graduate transfer, as he has completed his degree from the Mendoza College of Business in three years.

“After careful consideration and reflecting on my future, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal as a graduate student with two years of eligibility remaining,” Wade said. “Thank you to the University of Notre Dame and fans — I’m forever grateful for my time wearing the ‘Irish’ across my chest.”

After former Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey stepped down and the Irish hired Shrewsberry to replace him, Wade chose to stay. He was one of four players, alongside senior forward Matt Zona, senior guard Tony Sanders Jr. and junior guard J.R. Konieczny, who played for both Brey and Shrewsberry at Notre Dame.

Wade played a career-high 9 minutes in Notre Dame’s 65-45 loss to The Citadel on Dec. 19. He scored 2 points on free throws during a 78-59 loss to Marquette on Dec. 9.
