Newsstand: Notre Dame hockey hires former standout defenseman as associate head coach
Notre Dame hockey hired former Irish defenseman Brock Sheahan as associate head coach, the team announced Tuesday morning. Sheahan played for the Irish from 2004 to 2008, including three years under current coach Jeff Jackson.
“When Coach Jackson first approached me with the possibility of coming back to Notre Dame to be a member of this great staff, it was an opportunity that my family and I have dreamt about – an opportunity to come home,” Sheahan said in a press release. “The University of Notre Dame is a place like no other and I feel that I am uniquely prepared to help the program move forward.”
Sheahan joins the Irish after one season coaching the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. The Wolves, who are the Carolina Hurricanes’ minor-league affiliate, went 35-29-5 under Sheahan’s direction.
“I would like to thank the Carolina Hurricanes for the opportunity to be a head coach at the AHL level last season,” Sheahan said. “It was an incredible experience and a year that helped me get better as a coach in all areas.”

Quote of the Day
“(My parents) loved it. It was my dad’s first time there and my mom’s third time. They loved it. It opened their eyes to the type of opportunity on and off the field that is presented at Notre Dame. There are connections and a network that they provide for their students. It opened their eyes to a holistic approach to the college decision and what Notre Dame is all about.”
