Notre Dame hockey adds graduate transfer from New Hampshire to 2022-23 roster
An Indiana native is coming home. Notre Dame announced the addition of Jackson Pierson to the 2022-23 hockey roster Monday.
The son of a former Purdue baseball player, Pierson grew up in Zionsville, Ind., just outside of Indianapolis. He spent his first four collegiate seasons suiting up for the University of New Hampshire. He scored 31 goals and tallied 57 assists in 115 career games for the Wildcats.
Pierson recorded a career-high 12 goals this past season as a senior. He was one of the team’s alternate captains. Unsurprisingly, Notre Dame head coach Jeff Jackson and his staff went after a player with high character in luring Pierson to South Bend. Pierson won Hockey East’s Len Ceglarski Individual Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the player who has consistently demonstrated superior conduct and sportsmanship on the ice.
Pierson landed on many classroom-related lists during his time at New Hampshire. He was a 2021 Krampade All-American Scholar as voted by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) as well as a 2021 Hockey East All-Academic Team member.

Pierson is the third player to officially be added to the 2022-23 Notre Dame roster in the last week. The Irish also welcomed defensemen Drew Bavaro of Bentley and Ben Brinkman of Minnesota. Notre Dame is trying to offset the losses of forward Max Ellis and Graham Slaggert and defensemen Spencer Stastney and Adam Karashik to NHL organizations.
The retention of defensemen Nick Leivermann and Chase Blackmun will help on the back end. Notre Dame is also returning forward Jack Adams up front. Forwards Ryder Rolston and Landon Slaggert emerged as scorers in their sophomore seasons. They look ready to lead Notre Dame from a production standpoint next season.
Jackson has the Notre Dame program at a point in which it doesn’t rebuild; it reloads. Keeping a formidable roster intact after losing key players to the next level was paramount. It seems the coaching staff has done just that in part by bringing in transfers like Pierson. The quest remains for the Irish to bring a first hockey national championship home to Compton Family Ice Arena.
