Playoffs, the ACC, and independence make for a perfect Irish trifecta

The endless debate over whether or not the Fighting Irish should preserve football independence often resurfaces about this time every year.  But as we all ready for this maiden 12-team College Football Playoff voyage in the coming weeks, this regular season made it perfectly clear that Notre Dame’s setup as an independent, and its ease of playoff inclusion, needs to be fiercely protected.
