Notre Dame lands 2022 walk-on commitment from local QB Justin Fisher
When 2022 Mishawaka (Ind.) High quarterback Justin Fisher makes the move to college in a few months after wrapping up his senior year, he won’t be going far.
Fisher, a native of Mishawaka, Ind., will continue playing football as a preferred walk-on at Notre Dame, he announced via Twitter on Saturday. He received the offer on Jan. 29 and also had a couple of walk-on offers at Ball State and Miami (OH).
“First, I would like to thank my family, especially my parents, for their tremendous support throughout this journey,” Fisher said. “I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates for pushing me to improve everyday. Lastly, I would like to thank Coach (David) Peloquin and Coach (Marcus) Freeman for the incredible opportunity.”
Peloquin, Notre Dame’s director of player personnel, is the one that offered Fisher just over a month ago after a tour of the campus.
“It was a cool experience,” Fisher told the South Bend Tribune. “I was definitely ecstatic. It was a cool moment, my Dad was there and it was just a cool moment.”

It was especially sentimental and exciting because Fisher grew up an Irish fan, frequenting Notre Dame athletic events since he was a child.

“It would be the coolest thing ever,” Fisher said of the opportunity to play for the blue and gold. “It would be just a really cool experience that would mean the world.”
The senior is 6-2 and 200 pounds. He is unranked by On3 but has a two-star rating from 247Sports.
Fisher has overcome several major injuries to get here
Fisher’s journey to Notre Dame has not been without major adversity. The quarterback has broken his back twice and worked through a knee injury as well. The Indiana native has learned perserverance from his family, particularly his two brothers.
“I would say physical toughness comes from my two brothers (C.J. and Brady),” Fisher said, via Paul Condry and Matt Kopsea of the Indianapolis Colts. “We’d be out in the yard for hours as kids playing tackle football from the time we could walk.”
Brady, who is two years younger than Justin, is also a quarterback at Mishawaka.
Notre Dame will have four quarterbacks on scholarship this fall: junior Drew Pyne, sophomores Tyler Buchner and Ron Powlus and freshman Steve Angeli. The current roster does not list any other walk-on quarterbacks, although running back Chase Ketterer, also a Northwest Indiana native, had some quarterback scout team duties last year and remains on the roster. He was an option quarterback in high school.
