Newsstand: Former Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o gives thank-you message in wake of Netflix documentary
The Netflix documentary about the catfishing scandal that targeted Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o has generated much conversation since its Aug. 16 premiere. Enough for Te’o himself to hear and notice.
And respond.
Te’o recently posted a video to his Instagram account to acknowledge the discussion, most of which has expressed sympathy and support for him in light of the documentary’s airing.
“I wanted to give a heartfelt thank-you to everybody that has come through and shown so much love to me and my family, for your messages, for your comments,” Te’o said. “I’m trying to go through all of them.
“It has been so amazing to hear the battles we’re all facing, the challenges we’re all facing in our lives and how the documentary has given us hope, the extra push to keep going. If there’s anything I wanted from this thing, it was to give some of us hope who needed it, tell those who needed some love that they’re loved and to help them to forgive others and most importantly, to forgive themselves.

“It has been so humbling, the amount of love that has been shown the last few days…Continue to show that love not only for the people you come in contact with, but most importantly for yourself. We’ll make this world a better place one person at a time.”
The two-hour, two-part documentary “Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist” explores how a catfishing hoax duped Te’o during Notre Dame’s 2012 season and the turmoil it inflicted on him. He appears in the documentary, along with catfisher Naya Tuiasosopo and Notre Dame athletics director Jack Swarbrick.

Quote of the Day
“I said I felt like when I was younger, we’d get to the College Football Playoff, but (when we lost), my mindset would be ‘Oh, we’ll get it again. We’ll get it next year.’ I told the team that was the problem, why we couldn’t finish those games. Everyone had that mindset.”
