Notre Dame men’s basketball releases 2023 nonconference schedule
Notre Dame men’s basketball released its non-conference schedule for the 2023-24 season this morning. The season will begin at Nov. 6 with a home game against Niagara, and the nonconference slate will conclude Dec. 22 at home against Marist.
Fans’ first chance to see the new-look Irish, led by new coach Micah Shrewsberry, in action will be an exhibition game against Hanover College on Nov. 1 at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend. All Notre Dame nonconference games will begin at 7 p.m. ET, with the exception of to-be-announced start times against Western Carolina, Marquette, Georgetown and Auburn.
The Marquette and Georgetown games headline Notre Dame’s nonconference slate. Notre Dame plays at Marquette in Milwaukee on Dec. 9. The Golden Eagles went 29-7 this past season, winning the Big East regular-season and tournament titles en route to earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They made it to the second round, where they were upset by Michigan State.
Georgetown visits South Bend Dec. 16. The one-time college basketball powerhouse went 7-25 this past season, resulting in the firing of Hoyas legend and now-former coach Patrick Ewing. Georgetown hired Ed Cooley, the now-former Providence coach on March 20.
In 12 seasons at Providence, Cooley went 242-153, transforming the Friars into a routine NCAA Tournament contender. He made the tournament seven times, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2022 after a 27-6 season.

Auburn has become one of the top teams in the SEC under coach Bruce Pearl, and the Tigers are a bona fide force on the recruiting trail, too. Auburn made the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023, where it lost to Houston.
It had already been announced, but Notre Dame will also travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on South Carolina in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Nov. 28.
