Despite a Week 11 bye week, Notre Dame moved up two spots in the Week 12 Associated Press Top 25. The Irish are No. 20 in this week’s AP poll, up from No. 22 last week.

Notre Dame jumped in front of Tennessee, Oklahoma State and Kansas. Arizona moved one spot higher than the Irish, up from No. 23 in the Week 11 poll.

The Irish played a Week 0 game this season — a 42-3 win over Navy — so they scheduled two bye weeks. They scheduled the first one for Oct. 21, a week after beating USC, and they scheduled the second one for this past Saturday.

Notre Dame had its idle week after falling to 7-3 with a 31-23 loss to Clemson. The Irish dropped 10 spots from their 12th-ranked position after losing to the Tigers.

Out of the teams of which the Irish pulled ahead, Oklahoma State suffered the worst fall. One week after upsetting Oklahoma in the “Bedlam” rivalry game, the Cowboys were blown out by UCF, 45-3.

Kansas fell out of the Top 25 entirely, although the Jayhawks would be 27th if the poll extended that far. They lost a close, low-scoring game to Texas Tech by a score of 16-13, representing their third loss of the season.

Tennessee dropped seven spots after a blowout loss of their own, and the Volunteers slotted in one place behind Notre Dame. Missouri demolished Tennessee 36-7, rising to No. 11 themselves and beating the Vols for the first time since 2018.

The Irish have a chance to improve their standing in both the AP Top 25 and the College Football Playoff rankings this coming Saturday against Wake Forest. That game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend.
