Newsstand: Notre Dame guard Josh Lugg to play in 2023 Hula Bowl
Notre Dame offensive lineman Josh Lugg has added an important piece to his predraft itinerary. He headed to a postseason All-Star game that will put him in front of NFL scouts.
Lugg accepted an invitation to play in the Hula Bowl, held Jan. 14, 2023 in Orlando, Fla. It is generally a destination for players not invited to the Senior Bowl or East-West Shrine Game.
The Hula Bowl has been played annually in 1960 and was held in Hawaii through 2021, but moved to Orlando the past two years due to repairs at usual venue Aloha Stadium.
The Irish had four players in the 2022 Hula Bowl: guard Cain Madden, linebacker Drew White, defensive tackle Kurt Hinish and kicker Jonathan Doerer. None were drafted, but Hinish made the Houston Texans’ 53-man roster and has played 11 games. Cornerbacks Nick McCloud and Shaun Crawford played in the 2021 Hula Bowl. The former was named defensive MVP after intercepting two passes.
Lugg has started 12 games at right guard for Notre Dame in 2022. He was a 12-game starter at right tackle in 2021, made two starts at center in 2020 and started five games at right tackle in 2019. He has allowed 0 sacks and 10 pressures this season, earning a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 72.7.
