The wait for Notre Dame to offer a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class is over. The Irish extended a scholarship to Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian Academy’s Peyton Houston on Saturday morning.

This comes as little surprise. Notre Dame has long been evaluating the 5-10, 200-pounder, as Irish quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli traveled to Louisiana to see Houston throw each of the past two springs. The coaching staff was patient with the timing of when to offer, but Houston has been near their top of the board for several months.

Houston visited Notre Dame for the first time on April 4, and by all accounts, had a very good time on campus. But this recruitment will be hotly contested. Since his South Bend trip, he’s been to Texas, USC, Penn State, Georgia and Oklahoma.

He is listed as the No. 78 overall player, the No. 8 quarterback nationally, and the No. 8 prospect from Louisiana, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

On3’s own rankings aren’t quite as high on him as the industry ranking, but still have him as the No. 157 overall prospect, the No. 14 signal-caller nationally, and the No. 8 player from his home state.

Houston is expected to take his recruitment into his junior year and take several gam-day visits.

“I’m really enjoying it,” Peyton recently told On3 a bout the recruiting process. “Me and my dad, we take notes everywhere we go so we can look back on the notes and ultimately break down what place is the best fit for me and wherever God leads me.”

Houston led Evangel Christian Academy to a 6-6 record in the fall with a win in the first round of the Division I Select state tournament. In those 12 games, he completed 310-443 passes (70%) for 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns while throwing just 6 interceptions. He also had 105 carries for 690 yards and 7 more scores.

The Louisiana Football Coaches Association (LFCA) voted Houston first-team all-state in Class 5A, the highest classification in the Bayou State.

Houston began his high school career at Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist. However, he decided to transfer midway through his freshman season.

Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb’s Teddy Jarrard was the other 2027 quarterback Notre Dame offered on Saturday.
