Newsstand: Former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman gets selected in UFL Draft
If things don’t work out for Sam Hartman with the Washington Commanders, he’s got a back up plan with the Birmingham Stallions. Hartman was selected by the Stallions with their ninth pick in the 2024 UFL College Draft.
The Stallions went 9-1 in the 2024 UFL season on their way to winning the league championship. The UFL is the combination of a merger between the XFL and USFL. Hartman’s first order of business before potentially joining that league with the Stallions, though, is trying to earn a roster spot in the NFL.
Hartman is competing in a quarterback room in Commanders training camp with first-round pick Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota and Jeff Driskel. Daniels is the presumed first-year starter. Mariota has been in the league since 2015. Driskel was taken in the 2016 draft. Hartman is going up against some veteran backups in his quest to make the roster.
Crazier things than Hartman going undrafted and making an NFL roster have happened, though, so don’t pen Hartman in with the Stallions just yet coming off his 191-of-301 for 2,689 yards with 24 touchdowns and 8 interceptions season at Notre Dame.

Blue & Gold quote of the day
“When I meet with these captains, you have to be strong enough to hear what they have to say. ‘Coach, this is what we see.’ Maybe we lean to much on, ‘We’re Notre Dame and we’re gonna be better.’ No, coach, we gotta make sure that we prepare and do the things that it takes to be Notre Dame.'”
