Notre Dame released its official first depth chart of the 2024 season Monday morning. Here’s how the Irish will line up at Texas A&M.

Of note: Every “or” on the depth chart is listed in alphabetical order.

Quarterback

  1. Riley Leonard (Sr.)
  2. Steve Angeli (Jr.)

What has long been obvious is now official.

Running back

  1. Jeremiyah Love (So.) OR
  2. Jadarian Price (Jr.)
  3. Aneyas Williams (Fr.)
  4. Devyn Ford (Gr.)

Williams made the depth chart, but not fellow freshman running back Kedren Young. The Irish like Williams as a pass protector.

Wide receiver (boundary)

  1. Beaux Collins (Sr.) OR
  2. Jayden Thomas (Sr.)

Wide receiver (field)

  1. Jordan Faison (So.) OR
  2. Kris Mitchell (Gr.)

Wide receiver (slot)

  1. Jaden Greathouse (So.) OR
  2. Jayden Harrison (Gr.)

Notre Dame will roll six wide receivers against Texas A&M, although it’s a slight surprise that depth pieces like sophomore KK Smith and freshman Micah Gilbert are not listed.

Tight end

  1. Mitchell Evans (Sr.)
  2. Cooper Flanagan (So.) OR
  3. Eli Raridon (Jr.)

Left tackle

  1. Anthonie Knapp (Fr.)
  2. Tosh Baker (Gr.)

Left guard

  1. Sam Pendleton (So.)
  2. Rocco Spindler (Sr.)

Knapp and Pendleton are listed as starters, so Notre Dame will (if this is accurate, which official depth charts are not always) go into Texas A&M with six combined starts on the offensive line.

Center

  1. Ashton Craig (Jr.)
  2. Pat Coogan (Sr.)

Right guard

  1. Billy Schrauth (Jr.)
  2. Sullivan Absher (So.)

Right tackle

  1. Aamil Wagner (Jr.)
  2. Guerby Lambert (Fr.)

Vyper

  1. Jordan Botelho (Gr.)
  2. Boubacar Traore (So.) OR
  3. Junior Tuihalamaka (Jr.)

Three-technique defensive tackle

  1. Rylie Mills (Gr.)
  2. Jason Onye (Sr.)
  3. Armel Mukam (So.)

Nose tackle

  1. Howard Cross III (Gr.)
  2. Donovan Hinish (Jr.)

Strong-side defensive end

  1. RJ Oben (Gr.)
  2. Joshua Burnham (Jr.) OR
  3. Bryce Young (Fr.)

Notre Dame is 11 deep on the defensive line, and we expect all 11 players to see meaningful reps against the Aggies.

Will linebacker

  1. Jack Kiser (Gr.)
  2. Jaiden Ausberry (So.) OR
  3. Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (Fr.)

Mike linebacker

  1. Drayk Bowen (So.)
  2. Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (Fr.)

Rover

  1. Jaylen Sneed (Jr.)
  2. Jaiden Ausberry (So.)

Ausberry and Viliamu-Asa were the only linebackers listed at multiple spots. All five linebackers are expected to rotate, although logic says Kiser, as the most experienced of the bunch, will play the most.

Nickel

  1. Jordan Clark (Gr.)
  2. Karson Hobbs (Fr.)

This is a change from last season: Notre Dame is listing the nickel as an official position on the depth chart. Obviously, Clark will play every meaningful rep here as long as he’s healthy.

Cornerback (boundary)

  1. Benjamin Morrison (Jr.)
  2. Leonard Moore (Fr.)

Cornerback (field)

  1. Christian Gray (So.)
  2. Jaden Mickey (Jr.)

Gray has won the competition over Mickey and will start opposite Morrison.

Safety (boundary)

  1. Adon Shuler (So.)
  2. Luke Talich (So.) OR
  3. Kennedy Urlacher (Fr.)

Safety (field)

  1. Xavier Watts (Sr.)
  2. Rod Heard II (Gr.)

Shuler will start over Heard, who Freeman said will serve as valuable depth at all three defensive back spots (safety, nickel and corner).

Urlacher’s place on the depth chart — he’s one of eight Notre Dame freshman to make the list — is notable. He impressed throughout the offseason and could wind up burning his redshirt.

Specialists (starters only)

Place kicker: Mitch Jeter (Gr.)

Kickoff specialist: Mitch Jeter (Gr.)

Punter: James Rendell (Gr.)

Holder: Chris Salerno (Sr.)

Long snapper (punts): Andrew Kros (So.)

Short snapper (field goals): Rino Monteforte (Jr.)

Kickoff returner: Jayden Harrison (Gr.) OR Jeremiyah Love (So.) OR Jadarian Price (Jr.)

Punt returner: Jordan Faison (So.) OR Jaden Greathouse (So.)

The third phase is generally what we expected, based on what reporters saw in fall camp. Notre Dame has more upside and depth at both returner spots than most outside South Bend realize.
