While Notre Dame men’s basketball looks to get their 2024-25 season back on track, it received positive news for the future Monday afternoon. Irish signee Jalen Haralson was named a McDonald’s All-American and will participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game on April 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Haralson is Notre Dame’s first McDonald’s All-American since J.J. Starling, who now plays at Syracuse, in 2022. He’s the 20th in program history.

Standing at 6-foot-6, Haralson is the No. 24 player in the On3 Industry Ranking. The La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere prospect chose Notre Dame over Indiana and Michigan State. At the time, he was the top-ranked recruit to sign with the Irish since the dawn of internet recruiting rankings.

He committed to Notre Dame over Indiana and Michigan State, primarily the former.

“When I went on my visit, I just connected with the coaching staff, the players,” Haralson said. “I trust Coach Shrews with my game. He had a vision for me that I couldn’t turn down. And ultimately, I trust him to get to my end goal.

Haralson will play on the East team, where he’ll be teammates with the lone remaining target on Notre Dame’s 2025 board. Five-star Manassas (Va.) Highland forward Nate Ament, On3’s No. 3 player in the country, is considering the Irish in his final 11 schools as well.

“You know, [Shrewsberry is] an NBA mind and he thinks that I’m an NBA player,” Ament told On3’s Jamie Shaw on Jan. 20. He also knows that I have a lot to improve on. So just hearing that from him, and his plan, from someone that has been in the NBA, that means a lot. Of course, I’ve gotten to know him over the summer and we’re just continuing to grow our relationship now.”
