Newsstand: Notre Dame softball’s Karina Gaskins named to Top 100 list
D1Softball.com named Notre Dame first baseman Karina Gaskins to its 2023 Top 100 list, the Irish tweeted Thursday morning. Gaskins came in at No. 72.
This honor is the latest in a long list this season for Gaskins, who was voted first-team All-ACC and first-team NFCA Mid-Atlantic region.
Gaskins, a junior from Edison (N.J.) Donovan Catholic, started all 50 games for the Irish and was their most productive offensive player. She finished the season with a slash line of .348/.497/.741, with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs.
With Gaskins as its leader, Notre Dame won 30 games and made the NCAA Tournament, where it fell in the Fayetteville Regional to Arkansas.
Throughout her junior season, Gaskins set multiple single-game records as well. She tied the Melissa Cook Stadium record for RBIs in a game, with seven, on April 2 against Pitt. Not-so-coincidentally, she also set the stadium record for most home runs in a game that day, with three.
