Thursday night is officially in the rearview mirror for Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer. It was a bit of a stunner for him to not hear his name called in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but all he can do now is focus on the second round. It starts Friday night at 6 p.m. ET with the Pittsburgh Steelers on the clock.

Here is where notable outlets have Mayer going in second round mock drafts. If the outlet added context to the pick, it is below the pick in italics.

ESPN: No. 34 overall to the Detroit Lions

Getting Mayer at No. 34 is an excellent value. He is a potential replacement for TE T.J. Hockenson, traded by the Lions last year.

The Athletic: No. 34 overall to the Lions

Yahoo Sports: No. 34 overall to the Lions

Bleacher Report: No. 40 overall to the New Orleans Saints

NFL.com: No. 41 overall to the Tennessee Titans

The Titans are starving for a quality tight end. Mayer is a solid pass catcher with above-average potential as a run blocker.

Sports Illustrated: No. 41 overall to the Titans

Peter Skoronski was an ideal pick in the first round, and the Titans can get a similar player here in Mayer, who is just as polished and pro-ready. He’s a well-rounded player who can impact the run and pass game equally.

The Sporting News: No. 42 overall to the Green Bay Packers

The Packers were rumored to be taking Mayer in the first round to address their big positional need. Now, they can circle back and get the draft’s most complete tight end as a second-round steal.

CBS Sports: No. 58 overall to the Dallas Cowboys

Mayer isn’t a freaky specimen by any stretch. He’s a tremendous all-around player who catches everything and can get open.

The common consensus is that Mayer will have his new home within the first dozen picks of the second round. There is a decent chance he stays in the midwest with Detroit and Green Bay as potential landing spots.

Per most outlets, Mayer is the second-best available player behind Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. There was only one tight end taken in the first round; Utah’s Dalton Kincaid went to the Buffalo Bills with the No. 25 overall pick.

Mayer is Notre Dame’s all-time leader among tight ends in catches (180), receiving yards (2,099) and touchdowns (18).
