Notre Dame unveils Shamrock Series uniforms with ode to ‘The Hangover’
THAT’S how you reveal a uniform.
When Notre Dame takes the field in Las Vegas against BYU on Oct. 8, the Irish will sport the latest rendition of its Shamrock Series uniforms.
The combination, which was released on Wednesday morning, is all white with gold trim of the Golden Dome and an art-deco Notre Dame shamrock logo on the sleeve. “Notre Dame” is across the front, and the gold numbers are outlined in black.
The Irish will wear their classic gold helmets, an ode to Las Vegas’ Golden Age.
But the new uniforms arguably were not even the best part of the four-minute reveal.
Notre Dame sent head coach Marcus Freeman, junior tight end Michael Mayer and senior defensive end Isaiah Foskey out to Vegas for a reveal inspired by the 2009 film “The Hangover.” Irish greats Mike Golic Sr. and Mike Golic Jr. made appearances as well, as the group spoofed the desert scene.
The 2022 Shamrock Series game will kick off from Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Notre Dame is undefeated in Shamrock Series games, but the 2022 meeting could be a battle.

BYU returns a large chunk of the team and had success with the transfer portal, making for a very experienced squad. The offensive line — headlined by Blake Freeland, Clark Barrington and Oregon transfer Kingsley Suamataia — will be a huge challenge for the Irish front seven. And when quarterback Jaren Hall has time to throw, he’s proven he can be a game changer. The 6-1, 205-pound fifth-year player completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 2,583 yards with 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 2021.

Shamrock Series history
The Shamrock Series was established nearly 15 years ago as a way for Notre Dame to play in nontraditional regions and stadiums — both for recruiting purposes and to serve a national fanbase. The first game was played in 2009 against Washington State in the San Antonio Alamodome, and the contest ended 40-14 in favor of the Irish.
Previous Shamrock Series locations include Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium, FedEx Field, Lucas Oil Stadium and Soldier Field, which was the site of the event for the second time in 2021.
Notre Dame faced Wisconsin in Chicago last season. The Irish wore uniforms that were pretty similar to their traditional home blue jerseys with gold pants, but the jerseys had a few Chicago-related touches such as a vertical stripe down the side and across the sleeves, a tribute to the first time the Irish played at Soldier Field in 1924. The base of the helmet was a blue and gold tribute to the Chicago flag, complete with four stars.
