Notes

• Sophomore defensive tackle Donovan Hinish significantly out-snapped junior Jason Onye. Both had strong performances.

• Senior safety Xavier Watts led all Notre Dame defenders in snaps for the second week in a row.

• Against a Central Michigan team that doesn’t pass a ton, Notre Dame used its base defense (as opposed to nickel) more often than it will in most games, with sophomore Rover Jaylen Sneed playing 25 snaps.

• Senior nickel back Clarence Lewis got more playing time than he had in recent weeks, with 18 snaps.

• Notre Dame choosing to put freshmen Boubacar Traore (VYP), Adon Shuler (S) and Jaiden Ausberry (LB) in the game in garbage time — and only those three — is interesting. That tells me the Irish think, “We might need these guys if someone gets hurt this season.”
