The countdown to Notre Dame football is well documented and closely watched at this point in the calendar. There are 32 days until the Fighting Irish take on Navy at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 26.

Today, game time and TV information was announced for another Irish season-opening overseas expedition.

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will play South Carolina at Halle Georges Carpentier Arena in Paris, France, at 1 p.m. ET on Nov. 6. The historic matchup will be televised by ESPN. The announcement of the game itself came out back in April. Now the Irish and Gamecocks know exactly when the ball will go up in the air on foreign soil and how fans can tune in.

“We are ecstatic about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in Paris, and we cannot thank the city of Paris enough for its efforts in making this possible,” Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey said in a statement. “Being able to play in a historic venue while having the game showcased back home on ESPN is another step in the right direction for women’s basketball as it continues to grow both in the United States and across the globe.”

Notre Dame vs. South Carolina should be a preseason top 10 matchup. The Irish are coming off back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances and are returning many of the players who were along for the ride in both of those tournament runs; namely, junior guards Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron and senior forward Maddy Westbeld.

The Irish also have a trio of talented players who will play their first full season as collegiate student-athletes in guard/forward Cassandre Prosper, point guard Hannah Hidalgo and sharpshooting guard Emma Risch, all five-star players in the class of 2023 per ESPN’s recruiting rankings. What an introduction to college basketball for Hidalgo and Risch to make their debuts vs. South Carolina in France. Prosper enrolled early and played in 22 games last season.

South Carolina, meanwhile, had the top team in the country for most of the 2022-23 season until the Cocks were upended by Caitlyn Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, 77-73, in the Final Four. South Carolina had not lost a game all season until then. They finished a miraculous campaign that ended without a national title with a 36-1 record. Head coach Dawn Staley had to say goodbye to her two best players over the last few seasons; Zia Cooke and Aliyah Boston both moved on to the next level.

South Carolina does not rebuild, though. It reloads. Notre Dame will be up against a program that has reached each of the last three Final Fours and has won two national championships since 2017.

All eyes will be on ESPN in early November when two of the most prominent programs in women’s college basketball square off in season opener of epic proportions. Before then, the two teams will host a youth basketball clinic sponsored by Under Armour, both university’s athletic apparel supplier, the weekend before Monday’s game.

Tickets for the game go on sale Aug. 21. There will be three types of tickets available ranging from from 10-30€. For more information on tickets, email [email protected].
