Notre Dame women's basketball to take on Maryland in ACC/Big Ten Challenge
There won’t be a shortage of star power when Notre Dame women’s basketball takes the court for the 2022-23 ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Fighting Irish will face off against perennial power Maryland at Purcell Pavilion on Dec. 1 in the two program’s 10th all-time meeting.
Notre Dame has a 5-4 series lead over the Terrapins. The Irish last beat Maryland 92-72 on Dec. 3, 2014. Maryland has reached the NCAA Tournament in 17 of the last 18 seasons. The program advanced to the Final Four in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015 but has not advanced beyond the Sweet 16 since then. The Terps won their first and only NCAA Tournament title in 2006.
Notre Dame won its second more recently in 2018. The Irish missed the postseason in 2019 and 2021 but returned with a vengeance this year with a run to the Sweet 16. Maryland also reached the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season.
